driving through ann arbor in the fall
colors
leaveseverything changing
getting colderand the huron river swells
and moves
with the lay of the landcutting it’s own path
out of the groundfinal resting place
to be decided laterand i watch as autumn
screams of beautya slow death
that explodes
with windows of colorlike nothing i’ve ever seen before
because every year is different
just like every life is
every leaf is
every soul isand as i pass by the bridge
where we once walked
stood
and talked of lovewith winter jackets on
and corduroy dispositionsso sacred
so perfect
they were unmatchedunrivaled
unforgivenmuch like fall bleeds out
bleeds in
and gives everything back to the earth
before it saysgoodbye
one last time.

man, this is good! Winter jackets and corduroy dispositions – how the hell do you think of shit like that??? Just awesome, buddy . . . just plain awesome!!!!
You described it perfectly. Absolutely amazing.
I think I knew you were local and it slipped my mind. Or maybe I’m confusing you with someone else.
The end of fall brings too-chilly nights and receding light, but I see that melancholy is not solely a product of climate or environment. I agree with Jacksoncroons. Though, when I first read it, I read “Corduroy depositions,” which spoke to me in an entirely different vernacular; we could have been fast friends, that phrase and I. Still, I like the way you’ve written it and think this is, sometimes, what reading is about.
If I remember correctly we were in evening gowns and we stopped because you busted a heel.
Lovely.
@scrogers - you have the best one line comebacks of anybody. lve you man.
Last two stanzas perfect. Love it.
all the beauty and the grief of the season are on display in this one… nice. hope you didn’t have to hobble home in a pump & a flat this year.
